2nd Annual MOMA Day a Success!

Over fifty osteopathic students, residents, physicians, faculty and staff joined MAOPS at the state Capitol in Jefferson Cityon April 17 to celebrate Missouri Osteopathic Medicine Awareness (MOMA) Day. The event coincided with National Osteopathic Medicine Week. Both KCUMB-COM and ATSU-KCOM had large contingents at the event including Deans Marc Hahn, DO and Maggie Wilson, DO respectively. MAOPS President Robert Scanlon, DO and the Missouri Society of the ACOFP President Justin Puckett led the physician contingent. Attendees arrived at the MAOPS Central Office around 8 AM and were shuttled to the Capitol in one of Jefferson City's historic trolley cars. Over breakfast attendees visited with Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, Representatives Keith Frederick, DO, James Neely, DO, and Nate Walker, and Senators Rob Schaaf, MD, and Brian Munzlinger.

Following this forum, attendees were escorted to the House and Senate where Representative Nate Walker and Senator Brian Munzlinger, respectively, presented the profession with a resolution recognizing the profession and its impact on the healthcare of Missourians. Following some time to sight-see around the Capitol, the group returned to the Central Office for some Jefferson City barbecue!

For those who have not been to this event, we encourage you to consider attending next year's day on April 16, 2014. More information will be coming later in the fall. Click here a photo of this year's group! If you would like to see more photos, visit our Facebook page and "friend" us!
