Missouri Osteopathic Student and Post-graduate Research Symposium and Seminar 

The William L. Wetzel Osteopathic Education and  Research Foundation, in conjunction with the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, is excited to offer osteopathic students, including biomedicine students at a college of osteopathic medicine, and residents the opportunity to submit proposals for the 2nd Annual Missouri Osteopathic Student and Post-gradaute Research Symposium and Seminar. The Symposium will be held in conjunction with the Missouri Osteopathic Annual Convention to be held April 25-28, 2013 at The Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, Missouri.

All osteopathic students, osteopathic biomedicine students, residents, and fellows are invited to submit a proposal to display a poster highlighting research done in the area(s) of:

  1. Patient safety and/or quality research
  2. Clinical/Scientific research
  3. Case Studies
  4. Public Health/Epidemiology
  5. Osteopathic Medicine

The deadline for submitting proposals is December 15, 2012. A panel will evaluate all submitted proposals and selected individuals will be notified by February 15, 2013. Projects do not have to be completed at the time the proposal is submitted in order to be selected.

Once a proposal is selected:

  1. The author(s) must register to attend the Missouri Osteopathic Annual Convention
  2. The author(s) must pay the appropriate registration fee ($250 for research symposium participants). If projects have multiple authors, each author attending must register separately. COMs and Post-graduate programs may have funds available to assist participants IF REQUESTED IN ADVANCE.

(NOTE: Change for 2013 - All Wetzel Scholars and Resident Convention Funded participants MUST pay the $250 fee)

Posters will be displayed on provided 8' x 6' bulletin boards, and must be set up no later than 9 AM on Friday, April 26. Posters will be displayed until Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 PM. Posters will be judged by a panel of MAOPS members and several set times will be required for all participants to be at posters to answer questions from the judges. Winners will be announced at the MAOPS/AMAOPS Joint Luncheon at noon on Saturday, April 27. Awards will be presented for Best of Show, Highest Honors, and Honors. Students and Post-graduates may be entered together depending on the number of entrants in each category. The registration fee covers the research symposium and any other conference events the participant wishes to attend.

Judges will use the following criteria:

     1. Topic
     2. Design
     3. Display

  1. All projects selected for the symposium must agree to publication of abstracts on the MAOPS website and/or monthly newsletter, Prognosis.
  2. Those wishing their entire project be eligible for publication in the Prognosis must provide the project in a format that can be published.
