Role of the Trustee

The MAOPS Board of Trustees consists of members elected by the general membership who desire to be on the frontline of organized medicine in the state of Missouri. Trustees have several functions including:

  • Governance – Understanding and using authority granted in the Articles of Incorporation and MAOPS Bylaws
  • Policy and Position Development – Reviewing and developing policy (internal and external) to guide the organization
  • Vision – Setting the course for the future of the organization

  • Fiduciary – Taking on the responsibility to protect the organization and its resources

In essence, the Board ensures that the mission and vision of the organization are fulfilled to the best of their abilities.

Becoming a MAOPS Trustee

MAOPS Trustees are elected by membership to serve on the Board of Trustees for a term of three years. A Trustee can serve only two consecutive terms, but they can run again after a three-year absence from the Board.
In order to run for the position of “Trustee,” one must:

  • Have been a member of MAOPS for at least the past three membership years (Exception: Student and postgraduate Trustees must be current MAOPS members)

  • Complete the application by December 15 annually

  • Attest to follow the MAOPS Trustee Commitment if elected

Trustees submitting all the proper materials by the December 15 deadline will be reviewed by the Leadership Development Committee and placed on an electronic ballot for an annual election held in the spring of the year.
