President’s Award

The President’s Award is presented to one individual during years when a worthy candidate exists to a young physician (under 10 years of practice), who is nominated by the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) President and approved by both the MAOPS Awards Committee and Board of Trustees. All candidates must be members of MAOPS.

The 2023 MAOPS President’s Award recipient is Patrick Nakashima-Moran, DO. Dr. Nakashima-Moran began Des Peres family medicine residency in St. Louis. During this time, Dr. Nakashima-Moran participated in our resident funding program and attended the annual convention where he distinguished himself as a cordial, tech-savvy, and helpful young physician to MAOPS Associate Executive Director Chris Bowles. Chris advocated on Dr. Nakashima-Moran’s behalf to the Executive Director and other MAOPS leaders.

After being appointed to the MAOPS Convention Committee, Dr. Nakashima-Moran distinguished himself so well that he was asked to chair the MAOPS Virtual CME Committee. This committee is responsible for developing and implementing the VOC and other virtual CME activities like the Simply CME seminars. The VOC has become MAOPS highest revenue-generating program, with customers from nearly every state in the nation and Canada.

Due to his success, he was asked to consider a position on the MAOPS board this past year. Unbeknownst to him, the resignation of an officer left a void in MAOPS leadership for which he was nominated and elected to fill. He is now the 2nd Vice President of MAOPS, one of the youngest physicians to fill this role. This illustrates the level of trust and admiration the leadership of MAOPS has for Dr. Nakashima-Moran.

We expect more great things from him in the future. Along with this award, we have nominated Dr. Nakashima-Moran for the AOA’s State Emerging Leader Award. He will be recognized in US News and World Report and be eligible for the AOA’s James Lally Emerging Leader Award to be announced later this fall. Congratulations, Dr. Nakashima-Moran!
