About Us - History, Mission and Vision

History

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) has been the voice of osteopathic physicians in Missouri since 1897. We're most often associated with advocacy for the osteopathic profession at the local, state and federal level.

From our office in central Missouri, our staff members assist and advocate for the doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) in the Show-Me State.

Thanks to MAOPS dedication to - and advocacy for - the osteopathic profession, DOs around the state of Missouri enjoy the same practice rights as our medical doctor (MD) colleagues. Today, MAOPS has a seat at the table when issues important to physicians and healthcare arise!

Mission

  • To preserve and advance the distinct philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine and to advocate for the profession.

Vision

  • To be the professional organization that osteopathic physicians think of first for expertise, education and representation.

How Does MAOPS S.P.E.A.K. Up for the Profession?

The MAOPS four-year strategic plan (2019-2022) is in full effect, and MAOPS is thrilled to S.P.E.A.K. up for the profession!

The plan hinges on how each of the five pillars collectively support osteopathic physicians, patients and the profession. MAOPS will achieve this goal through the five pillars.

    1) Strengthen

Enhance organizational structure and use resources to best serve the profession.

    2) Promote

Increase awareness of osteopathic medicine among the public and profession, while improving member awareness of the Association.

    3) Educate

    Provide educational resources and opportunities.

    4) Advocate

Engage in advocacy activities at the local, state and national levels to protect and advance osteopathic medicine.
