Physicians are the most valuable asset of any health care experience. Your family, your staff, your peers, and your patients benefit when you have access to services like the Member Assistance Program that help maintain and enhance the quality of your life.

At varying times in each of our lives, we face personal and professional issues. Some are more easily resolved than others, but many can be best solved with unbiased, receptive, and professional assistance. In response to this need, and a growing concern for our members, MAOPS is proud to provide the Member Assistance Program (MAP) as a benefit for our members and their families.

What is the Member Assistance Program?

The MAP is an exclusive member benefit* provided by the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. In addition to counseling services offered by licensed professionals, it provides an opportunity to learn strategies to better communicate with your family, friends, colleagues, employees and employer. Regardless of the issue, the MAOPS MAP can assist you as you navigate your way to better health in all aspects of your life. It is voluntary and completely confidential.

*The MAP is available at no cost to 1st, 2nd and 3rd year members, resident members, full dues paying members and their families. Life Members can also have access to the MAP for a $150 annual fee.

MAP meets you where you are with a personalized approach to physician wellness!

What will the MAP cost?

MAOPS members receive six free visits annually as a member benefit. These visits can be used by you, your immediate family, or as a group. If you and your MAP counselor decide additional sessions or outside treatment are necessary, additional costs will be your responsibility.

What kinds of issues can the MAP help resolve?

Our professional counselors are prepared to assist you with virtually any issue that can effect your personal wellness.

Here are some common examples:

  •  Legal
  • Financial
  • Grief/loss
  • Abuse

  • Communication strategies
  • Depression, stress, anxiety
  • Eating disorders
  • Addiction
  • Family/marital

Is the MAP confidential?

Absolutely. Your privacy is protected by strict confidentiality laws and regulations, as well as by professional and ethical standards for counselors. The details of your visit will not be released without your prior written consent. Participation in the MAP will not jeopardize your job, career, or medical license.

What can I expect from the MAP?

A telephone call is all it takes to obtain the information needed or make an appointment with a MAP counselor. As needed, a counselor will meet with you via video conference or another confidential setting and:

  • Help you assess & evaluate concerns
  • Meet with family members
  • Provide short term counseling
  • Assist you in selecting other professional services or resources within your community
  • Follow-up to ensure that you receive quality services if necessary

Can I participate virtually?

YES! The MAP counselors are prepared to meet you when and where you need them, whether that be through video conference or an in-person appointment.
