“In a room full of physicians of differing specialties, practice types, & generations, we all have the same core priorities & struggles. There is comfort just knowing we individually are not alone in our struggles & are not a failure as physicians because of this.” -2018 Retreat Participant

GOALS & GUIDELINES

“The retreat was a reality check for me. Should be required for all students and residents. I wish I would have had access to this information 10 years ago.” -2018 Retreat Participant

Program Goals

During the program attendees will:

  1. Develop and implement a personal wellness plan.
  2. Develop a cohort for continued communication and support.

Goals:

  1. Physicians will identify the causes of stress and fatigue in their practice of medicine and describe the impact of these on their patients.
  2. Physicians will describe three new techniques they have learned to increase their overall physical health.
  3. Physicians will describe three new techniques to increase their overall mental health.
  4. Physicians will identify techniques to share with patients to improve their physical and mental health.

Attendance Guidelines

Before registering for the Physician Wellness Retreat, please read and consider the following attendance guidelines.

  1. CME is being offered for this program, BUT it should not be the reason you attend the program. Some sessions will be for CME; others will not. However, all sessions will be geared to helping you achieve personal wellness.
  2. Be flexible. We are certain some sessions will generate more conversation and discussion than others. Be prepared for some sessions to go long, and others to be cut short. We want to ensure we focus on what YOU find interesting and important.
  3. Plan on attending all sessions. If you can’t or don’t want to, this is not the program for you. The curriculum and outcomes are based on the idea that attendees will be present for all sessions.
  4. This program is physician designed and led. You will not be listening to lectures all day, but will be asked to participate in your own learning. If you enjoy interacting with others and presenting your own ideas, you will like the format of this program. If this is not your thing, take a chance, step out of your comfort zone and try!
  5. There will be some “homework” prior to the meeting. It won’t take long, but your experience at the meeting will be dependent on your preparation before the meeting. If a little homework is not your thing, then neither is this meeting!
  6. There will be some follow-up surveys following the meeting so we can learn more about your success as an outcome of the program, what we can do better and how YOU can help us do better.
  7. We will have opportunities for attendees to interact via social media after the retreat. We’d like for you to follow us and engage with us. We will use it to post articles and discussion items. You can use it to see who's coming and keep in contact with people following the meeting.
